mact angels camp admin & museum

The MACT Angels Camp Museum & Administration Building is a thoughtfully designed two-story facility located in Angels Camp, California. This new construction serves as both a cultural museum and an administrative center for the Mariposa, Amador, Calaveras, and Tuolumne (MACT) Health Board. The building’s first floor houses museum and artifact display areas, a gift shop, main lobby, museum storage, and administrative and IT offices. The second floor includes a library, board room, and additional administrative spaces for billing, finance, and training.

A distinctive feature of the project is the integration of a traditional roundhouse, reflecting the cultural heritage of the local Miwuk people. The design also includes a pedestrian skywalk connecting the new building to the existing medical facility on site, facilitating seamless access between the structures. The project aims to create a space that honors Native American traditions while providing modern amenities for community engagement and administrative functions.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the MACT Museum & Administration Building took place in June 2023, marking the culmination of a 16-year vision to establish a dedicated space for preserving and showcasing Miwuk cultural artifacts. The facility is part of a broader initiative to serve both Native American and non-native community members in the Mother Lode region, providing services in an environment that respects and supports American Indian traditions, values, and beliefs.
